Pulau Ubin - To the Siamese Temple

This is the final instalment of my photos taken during my trip to Pulau Ubin. We walked as far west to the boundaries of the Outward Bound school along Jalan Wat Siam where I recalled visiting a Siamese Temple some years ago. On the way, I saw a wild boar dashing across the path and disappearing into the thick bushes. It came and went so quickly that I was not able to capture its presence.

What we saw while walking towards Ubin Quarry.

According to the old man, this granite image was only revealed when a structure (I think he said it was a small temple) that was hiding it from view was torn down in July this year. The old man said that he bought his house 18 years ago and had never seen anything like this all the time he was there.

Pulau Ubin - Towards Pekan Quarry

When we reached Pekan Quarry, we were rewarded with what we had never expected to see on this visit to Pulau Ubin. It was good enough for us to be admiring the lush greenery and the gardens of the residents on the island. Life is full of surprises!

Pulau Ubin - The Public Jetty area

This area is like a town centre where all activities on the island begin and end. It is where you rent your bikes, hire a van to get to places like Chek Jawa, eat and drink, arrive and depart from the island of Ubin. There are public toilets, an Information Kiosk and a Police Post. After lunch in one of the seafood restaurants we set out on the second leg of our exploration of Pulau Ubin on foot voting against hiring bicycles because we had decided to take a look at Ubin Quarry on the western side of the island.

Pulau Ubin - Walking back to the Jetty

It was a good idea to have taken a ride on one of the vans that provide four-wheel transportation from the jetty to Chek Jawa. The charge was $2 per person if there were 10 people in the van. We paid $5 a piece and it was worth it in terms of saving energy and time. We walked at a leisurely pace stopping to admire the plants and flowers along the way. Fortunately the weather was cooperative and we had a lovely time walking back to the jetty.
