Sights within a day.

This is the first time in my life that I see what the Bukit Timah canal looks like. As one who relies much on the car to get around, this scene is a welcome change from the blinkered view of a driver. It is good to take buses sometimes.

If you are a frequent visitor of the Newton Food Centre, you will not miss this row of terrace houses built in days when high ceilings were affordable.

Along Neil Road, I snapped this picture without even looking at the camera's LCD panel. Just a lucky shot and then I was amazed at the architecture of these old buildings.
Taking photos from a moving car is a skill mastered through continual practice as a passenger. The type of camera helps of course.
The Red Dot museum along Maxwell Road. Many a time, I have wanted to visit this museum and till now I am only familiar with its striking facade.
A balcony where you could lean over when an admirer comes and serenades.
Road next to Maxwell Food Centre. At the end of it is a cosy boutique hotel.

Ah, I think I read somewhere that Jackie Chan has bought this building that was once a jinrickshaw station.
This must be one of the oldest temple in Singapore. There are many reasons to visit this temple and one of them is to seek the protection of Tai Sui Yeh during the lunar new year and to thank him for looking out for you at the end of that year.

Arches and curves

They don't build these anymore. That's why they are now protected from destruction so that such beautiful architecture can still be admired by us.The former Tao Nan School refurbished and now stand as the Singapore Civilizations Museum. With Serangoon Road a stone's throw away, this building houses the flavours of Little India and Arab Street.
Remember the nasi padang at Rendevouz restaurant here? It's still there and is a lot pricier than similar food in our hawker centres.

Selegie Road

Rounded ends of buildings in the old days seem to be common throughout the island.

Chinatown Hotel

This building is on the fringe of the Chinatown area and is a hotel. Many buildings in Singapore have been restored and preserved for future generations to have a sense of history amidst rapid economical development. I really like the way that our old building are being protected by the government because there is so much variety and uniqueness in the architecture reflecting our multicultural heritage that would have been lost forever.

In the vicinity of Keppel Road

We have lost our way to meet up with some friends and made a wrong turn from the main road and found ourselves along Neil Road where I saw this colonial style building as we stopped the car to make a call to our friend. This building looked like it had been given a facelift recently and appeared to be unoccupied with the windows and doors boarded up in place of fittings that are more in character with the rest of the facade. In trying to regain the correct bearings, had to take a long route and just as the car was slowing down at a bend, I managed to take this shot of a Catholic Church that was painted completely in white from the domes to the walls. I have always wanted to photograph this building next to the Malayan Railway Station along Keppel Road. I finally got the chance to do so.I wonder what this building is and whether it belongs to the Malayan Railway.
