Driving through this street in Joo Chiat area I saw this larger than life size sculpture of what seems to me to be a Malay hero or dignitary behind the fence of an old Kampong-style house.
The street where he resides is lined on either side by old conserved buildings that have been turned into offices and private residences.

Joo Chiat Road
Joo Chiat Road by day, specifically on the Saturday afternoon I was there, has little evidence supporting the infamous reputation it has at night. The road is flanked by rows of houses with beautiful facades and architecture especially those at the road junctions. The presence of inactive pubs and KTV lounges belie the kind of activities that infuriate residents in the area. In the day time we did not witness any unsavoury activity and walking along this road was as normal as walking along any such road where we got to admire the houses along the way as well as seeing passersby that looked pretty much like ordinary folks going about their daily business. The day was hot but not humid. The sky was blue and clouds floated by. It was a great Saturday.
